Over a year ago, I was looking to dial-in my lanyard setup and decided to purchase the C&F Design Medium Chest Box to increase the number of flies I was able to carry while using a lanyard. After fishing with the box for over a year, I wanted to share my thoughts on it.
The Pros:
Super light-weight. I have come to expect this from C&F Designs. Their boxes are really light and well built, making them perfect for anglers looking to shed ounces off of their system.
Integrated tippet storage and a way to dispense and cut the tippet. Really awesome design!
Large capacity. Can fit TONS of small nymphs and even has some room for small streamers.
A magnetic compartment for odds and ends - I like to use this for very small midges, tricos, and as a staging area as I'm selecting flies to tie on.
Small enclosed compartments for small strike indicators or split shot.
The Cons:
Integrated tippet storage does not fit most spools of tippet. Most brands (Trouthunter, Cortland, Rio, SI, Orvis, etc.) are too large in diameter to fit. I had to find two smaller tippet spools and respool some of my preferred brand of tippet onto these spools.
The lanyard that the box comes with is very uncomfortable to wear for long periods of time. I removed the box and added it to my own lanyard to circumvent this.
